Macola 7.6.300b SQL2000

We upgraded our Symantec Anti-virus to Endpoint Protection 11.0.MR1. I have noticed that some of the data intensive processes seem to hang, but the process will finally finish. I have tested the same processes without the anti-virus and it runs up to 6 times faster. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Thanks.

I do not have experience with the specific versions that you are running. However I have experienced this issue in a prior company/product mix.

Yes, if you get 'real time scanning' into the layers of your ERP application it can have these results.

You are SQL 2000 so I wouldn't think that data access is a problem. But if real time scanning is monitoring executables and/or temp files, I could see this being the case.

In my current version of Symantec (Enterprise 10.1.6.6000) , I am able to exclude specific file types or complete directories from the real time scanning: "Client Auto-Protect Options". This functionality must still exist in the new version.

Thanks for your input Jay. The new Enterprise version (11) is so different. It does have centralize exception policies, but the whole program is so different that we are having probelems setting up the exceptions. I am sure we will be calling tech support today. For anyone who is even remotely thinking of upgrading to this version - DON'T. It is very buggy and they are already on release 2 and it just came out in October. Thanks again.

Was your issue with Macola ever resolved?

Yes, it wasn't the anti-virus after all, although there were plenty of other issues with the anti-virus. See document number 06.733.586 on Macola's tech support site. This fixed the issue.
