Long story. PC won't start 3 days ago and had to scanreg/fix. That helped it go into Windows. For the last 2 days, the blue screen of death keeps popping up whenever I shutdown PC....with these messages :

Fatal Exception (06) at 0028:C160C789
(When I press any key to continue, another different blue screen message came on :)
Fatal Exception OE at 0028:C029A50C VXD NTKERN 08+00007418

Went to Windows support and found out that VXD NTKERN has something to do with Device drivers.

Today, went and defrag PC. Blue screen again halfway to defrag. Had about 4 blue screens come on today alone.

I suspect I need a new RAM stick but not very very sure about it. I also uninstall McAfee v5.15 totally today...juts in case it is that.

PC is a AMD K6-2 400MHZ processor with 128MB RAM (one slot) and it's a compaq presario 5242.

Any suggestions?

Try running your recovery disk, this should comtain an option to let you keep your current files.

I'm not sure what recovery disk U're refering to. I don't have Windows 98 installation ROM or in HDD. There's only one recovery exe program but that is compaq's and what it does is restore it back to factory settings...wiping out everything and I'm not even sure if running that won't need a Win98 installation disk.

Compaq's disk should contain an option to leave your existing files and just install W98 over itself.

Oh okay...I didn't know that :)

Do U personally think that it's RAM stick going kaput?.

I forgot to mention that. I already downloaded that software after I got into windows again 3 days ago (scanreg/fix)

Halfway thru running the test, it froze. I can never get to fully test the memory no matter what I do. That's why I suspect a RAM stick error there.
