I run a firewall on my system and I have started getting an alert that 'EBUE1C3.EXE is trying to access the internet'.
I disallowed it to be safe, and checked its location, which was C:\Windows\Temp, file size 0 bytes.(!) Now, the problem is that the Temp. folder is empty, a 'Find' turns up nothing, and Anti-virus finds nothing either, therefore there's nothing to remove. To the computer it doesn't exist, yet the firewall is blocking it.
I know it COULD be a trojan,
I know it COULD be a virus,
But does anyone actually know this file and what its purpose is?
Cheers, Andy. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

Does not turn up anything in Norton Corporate Edition
In the Virus list
Even If I remove some of the letters

HI!

First, make sure your anti virus software is updated and active.
Few viruses can disable the AV software.

Try to boot to command prompt only (if under Win9X) and run these commands:
C:
CD CD PROGRA~1
CD NORTON~1
SMARTDRV
NAVDX /L

Also try to boot to command prompt or open DOS box under windows and type:
C:
CD \WINDOWS\TEMP
DIR /A
or:
DIR *.EXE /A

and you can delete it from DOS:
DELTREE .
but MAKE SURE you are in the TEMP folder and not in another one.
Include the space and period after the DELTREE command.
