I have Symantec Backup Exec 11d on a win 2003 server. I recently noticed my C: drive filling up and narrowed it down to the backup exec data folder.

C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data

The SQL database 2GB along with it's Backup file. In addition there are 5 .xlm files that are around 400MB. I deleted some old ones last week so I'm not sure if they delete themselfs after time.

Anyhow, can anyone help me with reducing the size of this data folder.

I don't need the SQL backup but I'm not sure how to get rid of it???

Anyone know of a way to reduce the SQL database size? Can I purge old data?

Thanks in advance!!!

Also my catalog files have recently grown in size. They were just KB now they are 130MB or so. I must of done something ;(

You can reduce the size of the catalogs folder by changing the catalog settings in Tools, Options, Catalog. See To be honest a 130MB catalog folder isn't that big, so you might not want to reduce its size too much as you might lose some ease of restore functionality.

If you have very large xml files in the data folder, it might be because you are doing lots of job logging. If you just have job summaries, the xml files should be quite small (like 20KB). Check Tools, Options, Job logs for this setting.

The SQL database is rather big. Perhaps you aren't doing database maintenance? Look at Tools, Options, Database maintenance, where you can set options for purging old data.

I also wouldn't remove the database backup. If you have to restore your media server, you're going to need it.

Just for a point of reference my catalog directory is just under 7GB.
