I'm curious to know if it's possible to do a Whois search based on the registered owner of the domain.

I'd like to be able to enter a company/individual's name and get a list back of all the domains they have registered.

Anyone know if this is possible and where I might be able to do it?

A google search brings up a lot of shady looking responses.
I'm not certain that there is a definitive way to do this.

Yeah, I found the shady sites.
It seems like there are companies offering the service but since the registry is basically public there must be a way to do it yourself if it is in fact possible.

If it's not possible then why not?!
