Hi, I'm looking for a reliable, reasonable company that i can safely recommend to my clients that will help them with their search engine rankings. For most of them, i just submit their sites for free to the major search engines but every now and then, i get someone who's willing to pay to make sure they rank at the top. Any names? This is not the best place to ask a question of this type.
As this is a web designers forum, a lot of the people on this forum will offer this service themselves, so you are not going to get many unbias answers.

Hi mate,
One thing I would suggest before you decide on any company.
Take a look at their own website, make sure they don't have anything in an alt tag that doesnt relate to the actual image. By this I mean when you mouseover their logo etc, you see something like:
website, design, website design, search engine optimisation etc etc etc etc you get the point.
This is a sure sign of an amatuer and will likely lose you the visitors after they get to your site, which defeats the purpose.
Most importantly - Do searches for some phrases that customers are likely to use to find their site. Let's say the company operates from London and offers search engine opt but their main business is in web design, do a few searches for things like:
London website design
design London
etc etc
If the company does not return high for phrases that are crucial to their success, never hire them to help you or your clients. Afterall, if you outsource to or recommend a company to your client and they fail, it looks bad on your company.

would it reasonable to ask what type of cost would be "normal" for one url per month? i know there are different packages etc... but can you give me a range? My client wants to know what it'll cost him to have such a service and i just need to give him a general idea... thnx.

Sorry but pricing is one area that I won't get into on a public forum, my competitors also use this forum.
Also, "normal" is a pretty wide term to use for this, different companies will charge different amounts.
Pricing should depend on a few items:
o Keywords to be optimised for.
o Amount of keywords.
o Ranking required for each keyword.
o Size of site.
o Amount of work required.
This is not exhaustive, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration.
