Our business is on 2 floors and since at least before I got here, the standard around messging system has been MSN Messenger. Not my first choice but I had no say in the matter.

So we kind of need to use something and MSN is it for now, but we want to turn on logging and store those logs in "My Documents" which are redirected to a server. Anyone know a GPO that I can push out to enable logging on MSN Messenger? How about Trillian? Any other solution for messaging beyond MSN? We were looking at an internal messaging solution at one point but not sure if thats the route we want to go just yet. We are already working on enabling a ton of security (which means lack of freedom for most desktop users) and we dont want piss everyone off even more by getting rid of MSN Messenger.

Thanks for the help!

I dont know of any GPO for MSN Messenger. You could write your own if you wanted, its not terribly hard. Looks like you could also use a .reg file or vbscript to accomplish what you want. looks like everything is pretty much stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\.

Hope this helps,

I did see the registry entry but didnt see how to turn on logging, did a google search and came up with a ton of GPO's to turn off MSN Messenger but nothing about a registry edit for logging.

Thanks!

I enabled logging and looked in the reg and I see these keys added.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\3674567472

MessageLoggingEnabled REG_DWORD Some long string of binary data

MessageLogPath REG_SZ C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\My Received Files\MSN ACCOUNT NAME\History

I replaced some private info but if you enable logging then look in the reg you will see.
