I've started testing Server 2008 and Hyper-V, and I seem to be having a lot of problems with Hyper-V. I'm using the recent RC0 release of Hyper-V on the gold release of Server 2008. Some of the issues that I've had are:
1. When I install Windows Server 2008 x64 as a guest OS, the networking, HID (aka mouse), and display drivers don't install properly and are not correctly detected. In fact, the only way that I can get any network connectivity at all for my guest machines is if I configure them to use the Legacy Networking (Intel-based) NIC.
2. I am unable to install the integration services tools. Every time I try to install them the installer tells me that they are already installed, yet they don't appear to be working correctly. This is a big issue because I connect to the Hyper-V server via RDP, and without the integration tools installed I am unable to use the mouse to manage the guests.
3. I am trying to set up some sort of iSCSI SAN/NAS VM so that I can have shared storage for a clustering test. It should be a simple matter of installing the software, setting it to a private VLAN, then adding extra NICs to my 2008 VMs on that VLAN for the iSCSI connection. Unfortuantely, the networking issues that I'm having are preventing me from installing any network devices. I've tried by FreeNAS and OpenFiler, and neither will recognize either of the NICs that Hyper-V provides. That seems odd to me.
Does anyone have any experience in getting these things to work?
