The novell review seems skimpy.
I was recently contacted by a client who is
interested in using BM due to design issues and
is currently using BM 3.5.
I have used 3.5 and do not think highly of it.
Does anyone know of any use reviews or upgrade
issues for a shop using netware 5.1/BM 3.5?

Novell made the mangment in BM able to use iManager, a NetWare 6 product. You can still do everything the older version do, and manage it the same way. One of my tech had problems importing the filter list, I my self have not had any issues.

The only true incentive I can think of to upgrade from 3.5 to 3.7 is the client to site VPN. Novell made some changes in version 3.6 to allow the client to be behind a NAT (only tested with Novell, Cisco & NetGear NAT software, remember, NAT is just an RFC NOT a standard. Everyone does it their own way). Other than that, the product hasn't changed.

The managment through the iManager tool is nice, but I find I need to just go down to FILTCFG to program filters. I like it better and feel it is easier to program filters using FILTCFG than it is using iManager. Brent Schmidt CNE,Network + [atom]

Thanks for the response.
This is a high school we are talking about.
Vpn access is not a priority.

That's just about what I thought however.
Based on BM's fixes and patch history I
would never recommend it to a client.

BM 3.7 is far better than previous versions.

There are loads of fixes to the proxy.nlm

It allows connections to java apps without hope and fingers crossed.

I have done over 20 installs/upgrades and definately would advise the upgrade. Lee Smith
