anybody do toolbars?

Hello,

I have a client that wants me to develop a web toolbar interface for their site. To be honest I dont really want to add to all the junk that is out there (especially for IE) but they are pretty insistent that this is what they want.

Making a firefox toolbar I can figure out because of the extension development documentation. However making one for internet explorer is not as easily researched.

In googling I found several freeware, shareware and pay-for programs that allow you to create your own toolbar from scratch, but no documentation.

Would this be similar to the developer tool bar in Firefox? What functions are you looking to implement into the toolbar?
Depending on the functions you are looking for, you might want to consider making the toolbar part of the site... take a look at this example:

look up ToolbarStudio in google
I think it cost $70.00 but its worth it. you should be able to create IE toolbars and Firefox as well.

Do they actually want a browser plugin, or just some navigation that looks like a toolbar, or tool palette, such as the one seen here:

Um...

They want a browser plugin. The site is a local busisness gateway, directory, and rating/review system. They want their customers to be able to click a button on their browsers toolbar and quickly rate a busisness and do some other things.

Toolbar studio is a program that I have looked at. However as a programmer I have always had problems with wysiwyg editors - that includes things like toolbar editor. I want to be able to code the toolbar myself.
