A coworker has sent me some files to look at, and they are all .cdr files. I understand that comes from Corel Draw, which I do not have. Is there a converter I can use to view them?
Ask your coworker to open the CDR files and export them as windows metafiles or GIFs or something like that. Then, you can go to Word and hit Insert-Picture from file, and select that file. If they export them as bitmaps, they should be viewable in Paint. If exported as GIFs, JPGs and the like, they should be viewable in MS Photo Editor. Anything but CDRs--they'll only be usable on a PC that has Coreldraw installed--that is, to my knowledge.
Viewing is the easy part. Using them in another format can be difficult particularly if you need to manipulate them. First you need to understand the difference between raster images and vector images. Raster images, of which *.jpg, *.gif and *.bmp are common file extensions, are bitmaps and are not efficiently scaled. *.cdr and *.wmf files are vector images and can be readily scaled and broken apart. Dreamboat has offered good advice. Ask your coworker to export them into *.wmf files. That way you can both view and manipulate them. Good luck.<br>
