Any way to eliminate HUM on external speakers?

I recently relocated my desktop along with its LCD monitor and external amplified speakers. However, the speakers now have a quite noticable "humm" that sounds like a typical AC hum. This occurs whether or not the input line is plugged into the PC or not. I have the speaker AC cord plugged into a UPS now but I also tried it into an AC wall outlet with the same results. The relocation is in an office environment literally 10 feet across the hall from where it was.
I've tried someone elses speakers and there is NO hum. But I couldn't convince them to swap speakers with me (as this person hums along with the music I thought they wouldn't notice the hum!!!).
As I am too cheap to run out and purchase new speakers as I do like the sound and size of my old ones, I was wondering what methods, tricks, etc anyone may have to try and eliminate this hum?

Ideas?

Thanks,

Bob (hmmmmm)

If you get hum without plugging the speakers in any outlet, then the power supply capacitors of the amplifier have probably dried up. Don't lose your time trying to replace them, unless you have spare time and money. Well, don't rush into a store to buy new speakers, but wait for a good sale. $10. speakers will sound cheap whatever the brand is. At about $50. it starts to make a difference. The sound output of modern PCs is now very good, so treat yourself and get some good ones, especially if you spend a lot of time in front of your PC.

Hum can also result from poor or disconnected screening/earth cable(s). Are all the connections between the power adapter and speaker units clean and tight? Maybe an earth lead got broken off when your system was moved?

To eliminate pickup from a close by source, just try temporarily moving the speakers and power supply over to the other side of your office, i.e. into a different AC wall socket.

Do your speakers have a volume control? If this is turned right down to zero, does the hum still remain? If yes, then it's more likely to be as Felixc suggested. If no, then you may be picking up hum on the amplifier input which could be down to an earth or screening issue...
