Any way to determine type of fiber in use?

I've got a wide variety of Cisco switches at one of my remote plants. Each of these switches is connected via fiber. Is there any way for me to tell what kind of fiber is being used via the CLI? I am a few hours away so I cannot physically go down to check. Thanks.

Not really. If you know the GBIC or SFP types then you can narrow it down:

1000BaseSX only supports MMF
1000BaseLX/LH supports both MMF & SMF
1000BaseZX only supports SMF

There are two types of MMF however (three if you count 100µm) - 62.5µm and 50µm. They are sort-of compatible however it can be a bit hit and miss, you shouldn't really mix them.

show interface status" should tell you which module is in your sfp/gbic port if that is what you are asking.

Thank you guys for your repsonses. I apologize for the long delay in my response. I was able to discern from sh int status that the SFP's and GBIC's were running a combination of 1000BaseLX/LH. I guess I'll need to wait until I am on site to check the fiber type. Thanks again for your responses.

If you have any idea of the distances of the fibre runs then it might be obvious:

1000BaseSX: 62.5 um multimode fiber: up to 275 m
1000BaseSX: 50 um multimode fiber: up to 550 m
1000BaseLX: 62.5 um multimode fiber: up to 550 m
1000BaseLX: 50 um multimode fiber: up to 550 m
1000BaseLX: 9/10 um single mode fiber: up to 5 km
1000BaseLH: 62.5 um multimode fiber: up to 550 m
1000BaseLH: 50 um multimode fiber: up to 550 m
1000BaseLH: 9/10 um single mode fiber: up to 10 km
1000BaseZX: 9/10 um single mode fiber: up to 70 km
1000BaseZX: dispersion-shifted fiber: up to 100 km
