Good morning all,

We're possibly going to be installing a few of these IPO's and out of the box they're going to have 4 mods. The power cords are kind of messy so I'm wondering if anyone's seen a multi-power supply for the IPO?

Thanks...

Kris

Not officially, the testing and approvals for each of the IP Office modules includes the power supply unit.

In order to maintain approval if they supplied a multimodule power supply unit, the whole system would have to be retested for EMC, heat, electrical safety with that multi-power supply and all the possible combinations of modules, in all the countrys where different equipment approval have already been done.

If you do find a solution, remeber that the expansion units must be up and running before the control unit in order for the control unit to spot and support them. If all started together, the control unit has a few seconds delay built into its power up to help ensure that the expansion units finish their start up first.

I've done testing w/ cycling power (as a power outage would do) and have not had any issues w/ modules not working because they weren't started first. I'm thinking Avaya built an inherent delay into the main box to ensure that didn't happen.

In any case, I'm not too worried about making sure Avaya's certification on the product is met. I'm more concerned w/ the bundle of cables that could potentially be disconnected, tripped over, etc. These are trucking terminals so it can get pretty nasty.

Personally, I would refuse to support any technical equipment installed in a trucking terminal unless it was in a locked room with very restricted access...

If this is to be the case, and the units are properly mounted in a rack, you can make it reasonably neat and secure by liberal use of tie-wraps. But - I'm not a big fan of the way they handled the power supply issue either.

I'm not a vendor supporting the terminal, I'm one of the phone people who work for the trucking company who are paid to support these sites. We don't have much choice.

But, since I'm designing the new systems for the 80+ sites, I'm hoping to standardize it as much as possible.

Oh, well. I was hoping some company would have come out with something like that by now.

Wishful thinking :)
