Any suggestions for a beginner ???

Hello Tek-Tip Members,
I just recently landed a job with the state at a local technical college in the technical support department and one of my responsibilities involves maintaining a database called BANNER that is used statewide. The DBMS and OS are Oracle 8i and AIX. I was wondering if any members could give a beginner some tips and links to get me started. THANX
