I have Office XP at work (running WinXP Pro), which is running fine, and Office 2000 on my slightly slower laptop, with less Ram, (running WinXP Home).

Both versions of Office are running fine, but i'm having some compatability / corruption problems with Access.

My question is simply: If I upgrade to Office XP on my laptop, is it likely to run slower than 2000, or have MS made the newer versions run faster on XP?

My laptop is a Celeron 1300, with 256mb.

Thanks.

It is hard to definitively give an answer. It comes down to resource usage/availability and CPU speed.

This isn't a significant difference between the two. I think if you installed Office XP, you may notice a slight speed increase and it should fix the corruption problem you are having. I doubt it will run slower.

Hey Gorgeo,

My laptop is a PIII 1000 w/ 256 MB and I didn't notice any difference in speed (faster or slower).

I would recommend it due to the compatibility issue that you are having, and because of the extras in Office XP.

But that's for you to decide . . .

Peace! [peace]

If you are going to be paying for the upgrade yourself, then be aware that Office System 2003 (The silly new name for Office), will be out on 21st oct here in the UK. There is now a technology guarantee in place for anyone that buys 2002 before then , and they will be upgraded free, but I don't know if it's the full product or an upgrade. If an upgrade then personally I would hang on for the full version, though in your case, maybe 2002 plus a 2003 upgrade might be better, seeing as you are trying to stay 100% compatible with work. No reason 2003 shouldn't be, but your call.

I have a split application developed in Access XP (Win 2000 OS), 2002 file format, All in VBA using DAO record sets. Are there any issues running the XP (2002) MDE in a native Access 2003 install?

different versions of Access have never played nice with each other, especially if you write programs in one and (try to) convert to the other.

i have never found speed a problem different versions are.

Gorgeo,

This isn't directly on point with your question, but it does have to do with Access's speed. I just came across the longest thread I've seen yet (57 resplies, from 2002 to present). JGOODMAN advised the forum that if you choose Tools / Options / General and uncheck the "Name AutoCorrect" that it will significantly improve the speed at with forms open, etc. According the many response, the change in speed is dramatic.

Good luck.
Tim
