I have to work on a Spectralink system tomorrow and I have never worked on one. I have the book for it and will begin reading it this afternoon. Does anyone out there have expertise on Spectralink that might be able to help me tomorrow? I will post more detailed questions as I come across them while working on it. I do know that it has 2 control units and one of the control units has an error light on it. I also know that the client was unsuccessful in getting a set to register to either of the 2 control units today. The system is a Link 150 M3 MCU.

You will need to look at the STATUS LEDS for the error information

I'm running a Link 3000 now, but have a used 150 system that I ripped out maybe 8 - 10 years ago downstairs if you need parts. Not sure if it's the same as what you have though - this one was a plastic box that has feet on it like it was supposed to sit on a shelf (I had it wall mounted with zipper ties and plastic anchor blocks) and RJ45 connectors on the back for the ports, etc. I have the MCU and at least 3 -4 base stations. The phones are in the box but they're all garbage. If you're interested I would have to inventory it.

It's been so long since I administered that one that I can't remember enough to give you any advice - sorry. The 3000 is administered through a DOS-based application and is pretty easy to set up.

The wiring to the SpectraLink phones has always been a mystery to me.

Thanks for the responses. STRMWALKER was correct. Reading the guide helped out and it also has a tech support number in it to Polycom. I got a support technician on line who helped me get the errors cleared. I had to reset one base station and then unplug the amphenol connectors to both MCUs. Once I plugged those back in, all errors went away and the phone that failed registration will now register.

The wiring to the base stations is really not that hard - there is one data pair and up to 3 power pairs depending on distance. I usually punch down my 4-pair base station cables just like anything else, crimp an RJ45 on the other end and cross connect them to downstairs just like anything else - except I use different color cross-connect wire so everyone knows they need to keep their hands off them and I can tell which are power wires and which is the data. I usually only need to use one power pair for my distances.
