Any software to help me with this project (classes, javabeans)

I am going to try to create artifical celular life. I have already created the DNA structure for it (composed of a string array) and have created the mating process. I do not intend for the beta version to be too complex, although I do want it to be able to draw the cell based on its DNA. I was thinking that the DNA could contain points, and the points would then be connected by a line. Please do NOT tell me that this project is stupid/done before/will not work. I am using it as a way to motivate myself to learn java more, and I am doing it as a project for school.
