I recently started a job at a high-end portrait studio that produces up to 40x50 prints. The largest I've dealt with in the past was 12x18. If anyone has tips, suggestions, helpful hints, anything. . . please let me know. Especially ways to remove pixelation and moire.

Here's a way I remove moire;
When I'm scanning, if the moire is noticable I rotate the printed material on my scanner slightly and re-scan. It's often better the second time.

Now in Photoshop I always take a 3x3 sample of my file if it's big, to save time. Then under channels > cmyk, and while viewing composite, experiment by slightly blurring each channel individualy. You'll have to experiment. I think you'll find cyan and magenta to be the big culprits in causing moire.

-Have fun

You can also "find" the value of the magenta or cyan in "curves" by moving the cursor over the moire spot and seeing the "circle" wiggle. Then "flatten"the curve in that spot (reducing contrast) and it should take out the baddies. Skagit Valley Publishing Company
