any references for Mysql transaction logs, backup and recovery

Can anybody point me to any references that explain how to use mysql with transaction logs, do backups and recovery etc.

Ive been digging through the mysql documentation but im just jumping continually from place to place in 1700+ pages of stuff and not getting much out of it.

thanks for any suggestions
