We could help answer this question better if we know some more about your programming experience and the types of games you are wishing to design. Start with a game on your level of experience, and then move on to learn more about how to make the game you have invisioned. You will also have to make choices such as what platform to study, what type of game programming to study, and then the particular different branches offered by that game type. Also will want to figure out what environment you will be using. (like MSVC++, it takes quite a bit to learn just how to use it)
You seem to have started off pretty good, C++ (in my opinion) is great for game programming.
