Any good tutorials to achieve it?

I want to make a flash which users can point at some areas in the flash to update the preview area. It looks like the following:

What is the general name of the effect? Image Map?
Any tutorials can help me to do it?

Not an image map... each "check point" on the map has the button properties and uses the on (rollover){gotoAndPlay("updatepreviewarea";} actionscript for each "check point". Keep in mind that there are probably several different ways to do this, but that's how I'd approach the problem.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
