I'm due to get involved in a java project. I'm looking to get a good tutorial on java. Initially I have to write a functional spec for a program written by a 3rd party, so I will not be into code straight away.
I looking for a good intro (I'm familar with C & VB already)
Any ideas.
Thanks
Eckel's TIJ was a big help to me (more than the Sun Java Tutorial). I had originally downloaded it (it's a PDF), but it was a bit awkward to read, so I bought the dead tree edition. Highly recommended.
Another thing to do is get a subscription to Java Developer's Journal. They tend to talk about some high-level stuff (CORBA, RMI, etc), but what you should do is keep these issues until your learning level has caught up, then they will be of great use. I'm doing the same with Microsoft Systems Journal -- we aren't doing any Win2k development at work in the near future, but by saving the old issues, they'll be waiting for me when I do start on Win2k.
