Long ago, it would have been "offsite hosting" or "remote hosting" etc, but today some of the big suits want to not only host it offsite, but in a "cloud"<g> I guess they see Extra credit for using a new buzzword. . .
At this point i don't know what i don't know. If we were to engage an outside service to run a particular mainframe application, how would the choice to use a cloud or not be made?
Is there a simple definition of what/when a "cloud" is in use?
Unfortunately the term has been so popular with marketeers it can be almost impossible to separate things into useful categories. By now even pet kennels have adopted it.
I'm sure folks like IBM are using the term to cover things like off-premise hosting based on metered use.
This definition of anything at all as "Cloud Computing" is why this forum was stillborn from the start. Everything from chalk to cheese fits under this gigantic umbrella now, making discussions almost pointless.
