Can someone suggest that what are the cases when any.create_input_stream(); fails??

I am getting a Null pointer exception while executing this statement.

java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.sun.corba.se.impl.corba.AnyImpl.create_input_stream(AnyImpl.java:507)
