As a former Clipper/FoxPro 2.6 (DOS) programer who has been away from it for a while I am looking to get back to it. Someone suggested the AppDev course as a good start. Seem kind of expensive. Is it worth it?

Thanks

I've never taken the course, but over the years, I've only heard good things about AppDev's VFP training.

Thanks for the reply.

Based on some other recommendations and the price of the AppDev package, I am going with a couple of books instead--

The Fundamentals -- hentzenwerke publishing
Hacker's Guide to VFP 6.0 -- hentzenwerke publishing

Both were highly recommended...

Melmitts,

Hacker's Guide to VFP 6.0

I agree with your choice, but note that this is not the latest version. There is a Hacker's Guide for 7.0, and maybe even a later one (correct me if I'm wrong, Tamar).

It was recommended reading Hacker's Guide to VFP 6.0 first and then Hacker's Guide to VFP 7.0 becaues of the depth of content is more in 6.0 than 7.0.

That's not exactly correct. The difference is that for the VFP 6 book, we printed everything; thus, it's roughly the size of the Manhattan telephone directly. For the VFP 7 book, the reference section (which is the part you'll want to use as you're developing) is included only in the electronic version of the book, not the printed copy.

So, unless you're planning to read it cover to cover, you're better off with the VFP 7 version.

Unfortunately, we haven't done a later version, because sales for 7 book weren't enough to justify it.

That is what is so great about site... Always learning...

Thanks.

Tamar,
I know I did just that for both books! While not always a page turner, it was amazing how much I'd missed just reading the What's New in the Help files. I even discovered things that I then used in some older (FPD & FPW) projects.

I used to read the manuals for new versions of FoxPro (when there were manuals) cover to cover. Haven't done it in a long time.

<<not a page turner>>
What?! I've devastated. <vbg>
