Are there any commands to Open the CD-ROM Tray from the command line??

Thanks

To answer my own question, a CD can be ejected under AIX 5.2 with the following command:

#cdeject cd0

**In order for that command to work you need to make sure you have the cdromd running:

#startsrc -s cdromd

Just wanted to share that with anyone that may be interested!

AHHAAH Thats why I was trying to find the command so I can play a few pranks on my co-workers..

Have Fun!

if you find a command to retract the drawer as well, please post. =)

I am still working on that one, that is the only drawback you can't close it after opening it via command line... I wonder if trying to mount it would close it or if there maybe was some other trick that could be used to get it to close via command line....

I'll have to load 5.2 back up on one of my free systems and mess around with it...

Let me know what you find out..

Who is going to warn Yegolev's and franksoprano's colleagues that the next time they are doing a late night maintenance on a system, they're going to have that CD drawer opening and shutting like something in the Exorcist! [wink]

Evil spirit abandon my system!!! I exorcise you ... Run away damned soul

now i need to remember the commands to beep the speaker and write to the LED. aren't you people glad you don't work with me? well, one of you does...

to beep something you need only to echo "\007" on console.
In rc.boot you should find the command to write some number (888 ???) on front panel

This thread has a command to change the LED: thread52-661172

sbix... does that beep the ibm3153 or internal speaker? i will test this. many of our machines do not have attached consoles.

star for bi.

Well I did a little joke:
tput clear > goofy
echo "\007\007\007\007\007" >> goofy
wall `cat goofy`

Result is an instantaneal clear screen for all user connected by telnet or having a DTerm opened with a beep coming from nowhere ('cause the clear escape sequence should erase the screen deleting also info about the message sender) ....
