Just a shot in the dark, but I have a software package where the vendor recently upgraded to CR 8.5. The vendor told us that we need to purchase a Server Lic for CR. the expected cost is close to $100K. A pretty big chunck of change.

Previously, we used an Active-X CRV for viewing CR 7.x reports from within the vendors system. While I am sure we have CR installed on the server; the costs are no where close to the expected new Lic. costs.Personally, I am confused with the model that CR is using if this is the case.

So... Are their any options, short of recommedning that the vendor use another reporting tool?

Any comments welcome,

As mentioned above looking at a third party viewer would be your best best. I also do not suspect this is strictly a CR licensing issue. They have a license model requirement and the application being developed would have to comply in some way. It sounds like this upgraded server app has a pretty hefty lic. requirement and they should have researched the impact of such a move. Granted the license costs themselves are expensive.

Ken Hamady's site (kenhamady.com) is a good place to start as he has summarized a selection of tools.
