Hello. I've got antivirus pro 2009 on my computer and I'm trying to remove it. I've attached a link to my hijackthis log. Is there anyone that can help me remove it.

Malwarebytes Antimalware download and run it.

The full procedure I use all the time:

Download Process Explorer (free) and open it up. Kill every unnecessary running process including AV pro 2009 by right clicking it and doing a Kill Process.

Install CCleaner and run it logged in as each different user (not Administrator, not guest unless you actually use those accounts on a daily basis). This will greatly speed the scanning time.

Download and install the program mentioned above.

Update the definitions using the UPDATE tab.

Now do a full scan.

goombawaho,

Can you think of any references that show that certainly running a scan with CCleaner (or any other app) speeds up scanning time? If that is verifiable, I might have to create an account on my home PCs just for that purpose! [wink]

XavierMac,

AVG 8.0 seems to handily take care of that problem. I've used it on Vista to totally remove it, and my dad (who has done VERY little with computers since about the start of Windows 95) was able to remove it off of his Windows XP machine... I don't even think that machine has all the updates either... not SP3 nor many other security updates, so if it'll work there, it should work on just about anything, I suppose. The Vista machine was fully patched and everything, but still got the virus - but AVG had it gone with just one reboot, if I remember correctly, and found it pretty much immediately.

You don't need an account for scanning - you need to clean the accounts out by running CCleaner logged in under each account, one at a time. The reason is that CCleaner can only clean the profile that is currently in use (logged in).

I don't have any proof except my own experience. Malwarebytes scans all the temp, etc. folders under each profile, therefore if they are empty before scanning, it lessens the actual number of files that need to be scanned. AND lots of spyware/trojan/adware files hide in temp folders that CCleaner will clean out, so you're helping yourself in two ways.
