Probably a daft question but what is the general concensus with anti-virus on AIX? Is there software out there and is it required?

There is no need for Anti-Virus on an AIX system. If you are using Samba or anything that mounts your share to a windows host, let the windows host scan the network drive.

There are some small utilities out there.

Hmmm,

I rather disheartening statement, comtec17. What if you are using AIX for mail or another exposed application? Even if you are not mounting filesystems to windows resources, you still may want to ensure that your downloads are not infected. Sophos has developed AV for AIX but I have not looked into others. Just because it is *nix does not mean it is immune.

True needcoffee... if you are using Wine for emulation of Windows on *nix platforms, then Wine will try to emulate the virus and infect the other platform.

Unix is not imperiled as much as Windblows but it can happen.

Using Clam AV on an AIX 5.1 Postfix mail server at the moment.

As for the effectiveness I cannot comment, we haven't had a virus problem, and I haven't looked at the AV logs yet to see if it stopped anything.
