AntiVirus Disables at Login

My anitvirus icon on status bar shows it's disabling as I login to desktop. It takes about 30 seconds, and then enables and the rest of my icons show up. I am running Zone Alarm, with antivirus monitoring off, and they have been playing well for some time. Scanned system and reports no viruses, any suggestions on why all of a sudden this slow down is happening?

Dell 8500 Laptop, XP Pro, SP1..Wireless home client network.

I have seen this happen usually when the client is logging in and the symantec client detects a new definition file to download. Once the download and install is complete the icon goes back to enabled status. This is on a LAN, but should be applicable to Home networks conected to the internet probably.
