antivirus 2003 hanging possible virus

I may possibly have a virus that I can't clean. My antivirus hasn't ran a complete disk scan for a couple of months. It keeps crashing and showing the blue screen of death. When that happens it takes a long time and numerous days of restarts and shutdowns to get it going again until the next time I try to scan. I happened to watch it one day and it got to the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033 it hung there and blue screened. Once I got the computer running again I went straight to that folder in explorer and scanned that folder and it hung again. I am running office 2000. Anyone have a clue?

Have you tried to run it in safe mode?
To get to safe mode, reboot your computer and hit F8 multiple times before the windows splash screen
