Anyone notice lately Antivir becomming extremely paranoid about many new files? Since a few updates ago, many things that I know are clean are popping up like crazy on antivir as trojans when nothing else thinks they are. I tell it to ignore and it just keeps coming back up.

Another thing about antivir since their support seems to ignore every email I ever send. Does anyone know if the professional version requires uninstallation of all other anti spyware and programs like that?

I love antivir but here lately its starting to drive me batty.

I thought I had liked that one program a few years ago, when I first heard about it. However, I thought I'd try it out again about 6 to 8 months ago, and had the same problem. It was labeling perfectly okay files as viruses. And that was updated to the most current definitions, etc. I personally don't recommend that one. AVG Antivirus seems to work very well - I started using it at about the same time as Antivir a few years back, and have had NO problems with it. I have maybe had one virus not get detected by that, which I used an online scan to remove once about a year or year and a half ago, but that's it.

Hola, I am using AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic, and do not experience what you describe E-Freak... I can only conjecture that something may have gotten corrupt, either the FILES or some reference in the REG...

I just checked the AntiVir FORUM ( ) about the symptoms you described and have not found anyone else who has those probs... maybe you should post your question there? ( it is in German and in English, so someone should be able to assisst you further!)

PS: I had AVG, and it does not compare at all... see: this is an independent comparison website that checks periodically AntiViral Software for their functions...

Yeah, its possible it got corrupt. Never thought about that. Ill completely remove it and reinstall it and see what happens. As for avg, yeah im not that big of a fan on it as they seem to be behind on definitions quite a bit. Also use that site a lot badbigben, the comparitive place. Nice site for seeing results on antiviruses.

As for posting on antivir forum I did post it on there after I discovered that they had one lol. Anyway they responded by saying something about user testing or something. Not many on that forum speak english very well it seems lol. Anyway im going to reinstall it and send the false reports in if I get anymore. Just started driving me nuts with a sound installer and a chat client I use lol. Both of which I know are clean but it seems determined that they were trojans. I know they were clean but just to be sure I checked behind with housecall and it considered them clean as well lol.

Anyway ill do the reinstall and see what happens. Thanks.

Well it appears im going to have to submit a report of false finding with it. As with the chat client yahelite, it goes nuts if I have auto protection on when I open it lol. So I disable it for that.

Well, E-Freak if you need any translating (German to English and vice versa) I can help you there... so that Forum is not a problem to me at all...

it could be, as you say, that Yahelite (I don't know that chat client, I am used to MSN, IM, AIM, ICQ and a few others) is hitting a false positive due to some programming that may be the same as in a certain trojan... and letting them know that it is not should get it on the safelist for the future...

good luck anyways (darn german keyboard I keep hitting the Z instead of the Y (they are switched))...

Well, I've looked at that same website about antivirus reviews before, and I can't say that I would totally agree with it. Yes, in their particular test, I'm sure they were unbiased. There are, however, other (supposedly - I don't really know if any are/aren't biased) reviews out there that show AVG and Avast at near the top of the heap.

But, given that was in November, and the last time I tried Antivir was back in the middle of last year, I might give it another look to see if they've cleared up more of the false positives. From what I read either on that review website or another very similar one, it isn't a bad idea to have more than one antivirus app, anyway, since none of them catch 100% of everything - kind of like Spyware Apps.

That also again gives me curiosity for looking into another one or two listed on that site which I've not tried before.

Based on personal experience, I've used AVG myself, and installed it on several other PCs over the past 2 or 3 years. I have had no problems, and to my knowledge, I have only had maybe 2 viruses (one on my pc, and one on another pc I worked on) that AVG couldn't remove, or couldn't detect - and thus not remove), which I found with other antivirus apps/online scans.

However, I tried Antivir on 2 separate occassions (separated by about 2 years, if I remember correctly), and both times, different hardware, different Windows installations, etc, I had false positives - way too many to be considered any less than an annoyance.

So, I'm hoping that the Antivir app has indeed improved. If it gave a false positive, say, once a week or two, or once a month, at worse, then I would say it might be worth it. But I was sometimes getting several false positives in ONE DAY! I don't have time to sort through 10 false virus alarms every day - that's ridiculous.

If nothing else, this has sort of given me another excuse to go out and try another program - again. And hey, if it works better this time, then I'm all for it! [wink]

Well there latest update fixed the false reports I was getting. That was the first time I had got any false reports from antivir. Ive been using it for a year now. As for no antivirus catching everything, your absolutely right. That is why every now and then I use housecall to check behind it.

As to false positives, never had one at all with AntiVir yet... though I must confess that I only do a full scan once a month on my systems (background guard is active all the time)...

I do also agree that more than one APP is necessary these days, that is why I also use Kapersky and NOD32 as backups...
