I just started running a Red Hat workstation at home.

*I LOVE THIS THING*

Question: Has a reliable personal anti-virus product come to the forefront for this platform yet? I've googled it a feww times and see quite a few out there, I was just wondering if any one in particular is the best for the money...

Thanks!

Viruses on LINUX aren't a big problem yet so no one product has come to the forefront yet.

Check out clamav. It's free, and gets updated signatures regularly. Not sure about using it on local files (like the right-click & 'Scan with Foo Antivirus' you have to have with Windows). I'm betting you could do a script add-in thing for Nautilus if you are using it for file management on your Linux desktop. Personally, I have it set up to scan incoming messages on our email server.

I don't see a need for AV software on Linux. As long as you keep your machines patched and follow general security procedures you should be okay.

I used the clamav on our webmail (followed an excellent howto here. For me, it catches malware in the email attachments coming in destined for window's based workstations. I'm not nearly as concerned about Linux-targetted viruses as screening off the bagillion-per-day aimed at the windows boxes.
