If i got a PCI card with an RP-SMA connector, and purchased a N-type to RP-SMA convertor, could I use an antenna, say a cisco one or ANY antenna in general. Like the ones designed for AP use?

Yes, providing you have the right connector, and the antenna is suitable for the WiFi frequency you're using. 802.11b/g = 2.4GHz and 802.11a = 5.7GHz.
