We use our company web for making announcements to staff.

someone in the company has deleted a rather important announcement is there anyway to recover that announcement and find out who deleted it?

There is a Site Collection Recycle Bin that will show you who and when an item was deleted. It can be access from the page's Recycle Bin. There is a small link on the top of that page that says

"Use this page to restore items that you have deleted from this site or to empty deleted items. Items that were deleted more than 30 day(s) ago will be automatically emptied. To manage deleted items for the entire Site Collection go to the Site Collection Recycle Bin."

Click this if you have permissions and you can see the info you need then restore it. [smile]

See i did find a technet item ( about that i have one problem though i cannot find the "site actions" menu it doesnt seem to appear on the top of the page i have and i am an administrator.

Home - Documents and Lists - Create - Site Settings - Help

if i go into site settings i do not see "Site Collection Administration"

any idea's?

Its windows Sharepoint Services 2.0 I Have will this still apply ?

I didn't start using Sharepoint until we setup WSS 3.0 here, so I really don't have an answer to your followup. What I posted works perfectly in WSS 3.0 as I walked through it while I typed it for you. And I didn't have to use the Site Actions button...

Something sticks in my head that the Recycle Bin is new to WSS 3.0 though...so you may be out of luck :-(
