Another rescue disk 1

AVG has released a rescue disk. You can download an iso format for cd or rar format for USB drive. It will work on both Windows and Linux. I haven't tried it yet but hope to test it this week or next. The price is right: free!

Anybody else tried it?

Yay! The more the merrier.

Now just need to work on the ideas that BadBigBen has posted about where you can load multiple ISOs to one thumb drive.. then you can have Avira, AVG, DrWeb, UltimateBootCD, UBCD4Win, a custom BartPE type disk, various Windows install disks, various Linux distros, etc, etc etc...

Maybe NOW I can come up with a good enough excuse for NEEDing a Corsair Flash Voyager GTR:

Naa, probably not, but it's a nice dream anyway.

Update: I just ran this on a test machine which has WinXP SP3 and only 512MB of memory and it won't run. Not enough memory! That's the min recommended but it really needs more.

Eww, that doesn't sound too good at all! Thanks for the updated information. True most machines nowadays have plenty more than that, but sometimes, those folks who come asking for help are those with older machines that are under-equipped to begin with. I suppose it would just best be used on newer machines, then.

Tried it this morning. I'm not liking it all that much. I'm sure it will work for a malware scan and removal, but it doesn't have that "old windows feel" to it like a BartPE CD or that "Ultimate Boot CD for Windows".

And the registry editor is VERY un-windows like in terms of what you're used to with REGEDIT.

Not saying it won't work, but you have to really switch gears to get comfortable with the interface. I'll keep in my toolbox and update it periodically on my CD-RW.

I'll keep using BartPE though for remote registry editing, virus scanning with Mcafee, CHKDSKing, Key Code retrieval, file copying and other good stuff.
