KDE and GNOME are two different GUI environments. KDE is supposed to be heavier(requires more resources) than GNOME. Personally, I prefer KDE over GNOME because of some fancy options it has. KDE is more user friendly and is good for desktop users while GNOME is straight forward and it is used more by non-desktop users.
Pay absolutely no attention to anyone that even jokingly suggests anything other than GNOME.
Yeesh.
;-)
Honestly, KDE is pretty nifty. I personally gave it up after taking up using TightVNC on my LAN. Something about the KDE rendering system doesn't play nicely with TightVNC and all the programs refused to run. So I took up GNOME again, just because I didn't have time to fight with it.
If anyone ran into the same problem with KDE and TightVNC, I'd be glad to hear if/how you fixed it.
