We have another software program that we use for membership that we utilize to send blast email messages to subscribers. This software program is SQL based. We have run into this problem before but cant recall how to resolve it. When we run the blast email, we get a message from MS Outlook that says "Another program is attempting to send email on your behalf..." and we must hit "ok" every time to go ahead and send the message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Look at the security options. OE lets you stop this function. Peter Meachem

Yes...we are running Exchange Server, however I only have one new computer that is experiencing this problem.

petermeachem...I have looked at the security options but can not find where I can stop this security feature. Any help would be appreciated.

You wont be able to find that feature since you are using exchange server. You will need to install the file admpack.exe to the exchange server. This will allow the administrator to configure the settings for users to send from other programs. The file is on the Microsoft Office Enterprise CD in this folder \ork\files\pfiles\orktools\ork10\tools\admpack -or- you can go to and download it there.

Good luck! Chuck

Cassaro...why do you think I am experiencing this problem with only one computer? I have about 80 networked computers and out of those, probably 20 do the blast emailing. I thought at first it was because of Win2K however my computer is W2K and does not have this problem.

Thanks for your advice, I do appreciate the help.

If I remember correctly this problem was linked to updating to IE6 or updating your outlook to the latest version as well. But it was workstation specific, go figure [thumbsup]

The problem is related to a security patch for Office. If I remember correctly, when the box comes up, there should be an option to allow the culprit program to access the address list for a set number of minutes. I don't recall how to turn it off. Try searching Technet for Outlook Security patches (don't recall which one). This makes sense that it's happening on a new PC since the new PC probably has all the recent patches and bug fixes for M$ Office installed. Check out for more info on the patch.

It's usually a good thing. It helps to prevent viruses from accessing your Address Book and self-propagating.

Good luck!

The problem seems to lie in Office 2000 Service Pack 2. I have downgraded all the machines I run to SP1, and applied all the security patches that are actually useful.

No-one, not least its developers, should view Outlook as an Antivirus tool - running a powerful AV suite behind it will trap all the muck anyway, so we should encourage Microsoft to work on providing functionality.
