another newbie question

I am learning MySQL with php by trying several example scripts and actually it is not too difficult to learn the basics.

I wonder when a session ends. There is the connect function etc. etc. but so far I haven't seen examples with a specific function to end a session. How does this work or is there not a physical end of a session?
