im not a real noob but im just getting into desiging web sites that my wife does the graphics for. we have done our personl site, my wifes personal site and another one for a local architect. each one has progressively gotten more indepth. The architects website is the one that i have the question on. I created a pop-up, flyout using layers. the web site is . the problem i have is that i had the background image centered and the layers were right on with the flyout when the browser window was not full screen. but when i went to full screen the b/g image would center but not the flyout. it seams like its locked from the top and left position. My temporary way around this is by having the b/g image justify top & left. obviously this looks like crap. Im using dreamweaver 8. can anyone tell how i can set the b/g image to be centered and the layers with the flyout to float, i guess would be the right word, and stay in proportion? thanks in advance for the help.

your whole site is aligned left...I would start by centering the whole content then work out the bg image.

right that is what i explained. i had it centered but the flyout was locked to the left. the only way that i could compensate it was to justify left till i can get the flyout issue resolved. how can i get that to remain centered as well?

im not sure i understand your question? as far as i know i set it up to be centered originally. the auto resize thing im not sure about

ok i appreciate your responce once again. the centered thing i get and want. but the problem im running into is on the flyout. how can i set that to remain centered also as opposed to being locked by the left and top positions?

ok so if you are only intersted into having centered page then you must have made a decision to what resolution setting you are desgining for....therefor having a layer locked by coordinates is what your want...just use the px coordinates that will position layer where you want it with respect to left-top corner.
post some code or links for more...
All the best!

ok let me try to reword this..the backgroud when centered the hotspots work great but the layers that i have for the flyout are at position as follows :

L-391px
T-324px
W-156px
H-32px

so what happens is when the browser window is viewed in full screen ( maximized ) the b/g image and all hot spots recenter to the window. this is what i want to happen. but the layers for the flyouts remiain locked at the left and top positions. and then in full screen they end up in the wrong position. i want them to adjust also.

OK then we are looking for the auto-resize concept.
I would not use hotspots if possible but rather images-slices and tables that can be resized. Put your layers in the adjesent cells that will auto-resize

so if i make a table and then put my layers for the flyout in that table they should remain in the right position and not be locked from left and top position?

click on the link "1" or "2" to show the layer then resize the browser.
Notice how layers keep their "relative" position with the respect to the cells they are in?
the sample page is poor looking but you get the idea

All the best!

that is pretty much exactly what i want to happen...so how can i do this using a table and layers? can i put a layer inside a table?
