Under SQL 2000 running on Windows 2000 server I am able to rename Columns in a Table. But now I have SQL2000 running on Windows 2003 Server and when I go to do a rename of a Column I get the error message

'Scan_Name' table
- Unable to rename column from 'Given_Name' to 'Given_Nam'.
ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid cursor state

Product Version of SQL2000 is 8.00.859 (SP3) on Windows 2003 Server and SQL2000 8.00.760 (SP3)on Windows 2000 Server
the only difference is the 859 version comes with Report Services as far as I'm aware.

Any help appreciated -

Regards

I have found the problem thanks to Microsoft - I applied a HOTFIX 859 to SQL and that produces the error. There is another hotfix that you have to ring Microsoft to acquire it as they recommend to wait for another service pack eg SP4 unless it severely affects you operations
