Hi,

I made the unfortunate decision of upgrading my Backup Exec for NT from the old 7.2 to the new 8.6 Ver. 3808, and now all the damm thing does is .....crap out and take my drive (Seagate scorpion) off line!!!

It also won't over write my tapes, even though it's been told to over write without prompting. This after fu*king around with the damm software and finally having to put the backup account back in, and don't even think about trying to get it to back up my Exchange Mailboxes. Also, there is the perk of once having 4 gig native and 8 compressed and now getting it barfing after backing up only 2.3 gig before whining about wanting another tape. Man, what shitty software. Does anyone have a clue as to why the damm stuff does this?

I can't remember the filename but when I called Veritas with a similar problem, they had me rename an old file. So, when Veritas started up, again, I had to configure the drive from scratch, like a brand new install. It was fine ever since. I have version 8.5, build 3572. No major issues. If I remember the file, I'll post back here.

Try stopping the backup exec services
rename a file called pvl.mdb to *.old in the ..Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT folder and replace the file copying it from the cd WINNT\UTILS folder. Take off the read only attribute and restart the Backup Exec services.

Make sure Microsoft Data Access is version 2.1 or higher: See HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Data Access and check version number in regedit.

In regards to your Exchange issue, please answer the following:
Is Backup Exec on the same server as Exchange?
What version of Exchange do you have and Service pack?
What mapi client do you have installed on the Backup Server?

Cheers
