What does this error message tell me - backup of Information store:
[tt]
Source dbaexchis\First Storage Group
Start time XYZ
E8524
Received unrecognized command from the client agent. (COMMAND=0)
E8604
Failed to start backup. (DBNAME=First Storage Group, EC=)
[/tt]
The backup of information store is done thereafter, so i am somewhat unsure as to why i get this message every time.

Also, i still have a working bricklevel backup. On some of the mailboxes/public folders, following error message is written in the log:
[tt]
E8602
Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=\\SRVR:\Public Folders\XYZ, EC=SRVR:Backup Agent Error -- (366) "Failed to open a folder".)
E8602
[/tt]

Is this caused by access rights on the folder, which prohibits the backup-user from backing up?

Cheers,
Knut Erik

Thanks, the link concerning error 366 was absolutely correct.

Regarding the tip, backup up exchange through neighbourhood instead of through the ARCserve agent, i will give this a shot and let you know if it fixes my problem.

As far as i know, you need the Windows Agent to be able to back up any remote server (with ARCserve 9). Then, in order to back up exchange IS or mailboxes you'd need the exchange agent. And finally, on the backup machine, if there is not exchange server on it, the exchange resource kit need to be installed.

Now, I do not have knowledge about how ARCserve communicates with a remote server, and where the differences are between backing up through neighbourhod vs. agent, but isn't it much the same, in the end? [ponder]

You don't have to have the Windows agent to backup through the network, but I think you will have to have the Exchange agent to do it. You might be able to dismount the information store and backup the databases through the network without the agent.

Without the Windows Agent, I was not able to connect through network neighbourhood. And a CA-representative told me too that I need to have the Windows Agent [ponder].

Oh well...

Hi
If you are taking the backup through client agent(backup agent) you can get the benefit like Copresstion,Encryption, filtering, and distribute the load on remote servers while backing up not depend only on the backup server to process everything this call Push agent technology.
also if put a fillter and try backup if you use the client agent the filltering will be done on the remote server side
wherese using the Network it will send it to the backup server and then it will do the filltering.
If you are using Disaster Recovery option the backup must be taken using the client agent it won't work if youu doing it through the Network.

This is really weird, I no longer have the "[tt]EC=SRVR:Backup Agent Error -- (366)[/tt]" error (thx xenotec), but i get a new message when performing backup of IS through neighbourhod instead of agent:
[tt]E8524
Received unrecognized command from the client agent. (COMMAND=78)
E8604
Failed to start backup. (DBNAME=First Storage Group, EC=)
[/tt]
The information store is backed up all right, so why do I get this error message???? [ponder]

Before i switched from agent to neighbourhood, my backup did not even back up IS, since yesterday. Status "Crashed" with the error message above in the log.

And I have not been able to track down the error messages neither in the troubleshooting section of my ExAgent Handbook nor on support-pages of CA [mad]

Cheers
