I have a 250i which was experiencing problems and was reloaded but fails to reload with this messge:

Booting from SCSI file XBOOT.IM
Image loaded
Loading Image from Hard Disk
Loading file VMS1_2.IM
Boot error - hard disk I/O error: SCSI error: f0 00 00
Boot error -- I/O error
Unable to locate a valid boot device
Loading Image from Hard Disk
Loading file VMS1_2.IM
Boot error - hard disk I/O error: SCSI error: f0 00 00

it loops in this state. I suspect the disk has failed, but I don't have the orignial software to try and load it by floppy. Can anyone help? the software version is S.1.0.0

From the previous posts it looks like it is contained on only 2 floppies?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Meltitdown,

I think that the harddisk is crashed. I don't have S.1.0.0 software for you.

Hopes someone else can help you.

Kings

Do you know if it is possible to use the S.2.x.x software? I guess it is...does 250i has the same hardware for both software revisions?

Hi meltitdown

As the Voice 250i is a "special" designed Voice Mail system - designed by OCTEL and Ericsson to fit into an Ericsson stackable module, only few spareparts are to be found around.
All boards are the same as the OCTEL voice 200/300, except the harddisks and power supplies.

Please write down what you have of diskettes, i.e. serial numbers.
Also write down the diskettes you have with voice prompts.
Do you have an old logfile with e.g. the L F?
It is important to know which s/w was on the system before, as it is NOT allways possible to upgrade directly from e.g. S.1. to S.2. without adding extra RAM.
I can support you with diskettes for S.1 or S.2 and language prompts, but you can also download these from AVAYAs web site.

Best regards doktor

Hi meltitdown (again)

If you have all the necessary diskettes, listed below, I will (later in the text) write the necessary commands to be executed - and in the correct order...

You need the following diskettes: For S.2.0.2-2:

-Software diskettes I/N 600-6364-014 (3 pcs.)
-Models diskette I/N 600-6364-015 (1 pcs.)
-Prompts diskettes I/N 600-6364-002 (7 pcs.)
(US english version 2G)

Insert Floppy 1 of the Software diskettes and press the boot button on the CPU-12/CPU16 board.
Press enter twice on your TTY termial setup to the baudrate of 9600/7/E/1.

Then you should see something like this:

Testing COMPLETED
Booting from floppy disk file XBOOT.IM
Image loaded
Loading Image from Floppy Disk
Loading file VMS1_2.IM
Please insert code floppy #2 & Press Return...
Loading file VMS2_2.IM
Image loaded

From here you should be able to check the harddisk by:

@DSKMAP
Shows what is installed in the different SLOTs.
---
@DSKTST and the number the harddisk drive, e.g. B2
The status should be ACTIVE and Configured
---
Then the @DISKO command should be entered:

The current Status here should be UNKNOWN and Configured.

At the @DISKO, choose:
#4 to Restore the system.
You also need to enter the quantity of drives and languages.
Press Y for YES to go on ...
----
Then the commands are:
@SUMIT F:CREDIR
(loaded from software diskette #3)
Press Y for YES to go on ...

Then
@SUBMIT F:MFGINIT

Then
@SUBMIT F:LOADCODE
When the system tells that RECOMBINE is SUCCESSFULLY
and F:loadcode is complete, then it is time to install the
voice prompts, this way:

@FLOP
#2 for restore
#5 for Prompts
#2 for Adding a language

After installing all the 7 voice mail prompt diskettes it is time to reload the system and re-install the system again using the CONFIG diskette.

Use @SUBMIT H:CRECFG to build a new CONFIG diskette.

Hope that you can use this

Best regards doktor

Hi Doktor, thanks for your response!

here is an old L F: see below

I don't have any disks except the Config back up disk.(P/N:600-6280-004) (No prompts and no software.)

I couldn't find out where I could download the Software S.1.1.1-2 or the voice prompts from avaya? Can you post a link here?

Hi meltitdown

You can use my diskettes if you send them back again.
I only have one set left.
Use my email address savedmessage at hotmail.com

Hi Doktor

If you use disk factory then you may make copies of the Serenade disks as their exact images. This does only work with 98 or NT, not XP

Hi Jonathan Schofield

Will it run on Windows 2000??

BR doktor

Hi meltitdown
Hi Jonathan Schofield

I have found out what kind of diskettes are needed.
I have these 12 diskettes ready for you.

System software for S.1.1.1-2:
P/N 600-6344-005 (6 diskettes)

English (Great Britain)version 1A prompts.
P/N 600-6315-002 (6 diskettes)

Can the files (content) of the diskettes be directly copied
to new diskettes or should disk factory be used??
BR doktor

Not sure about WIN2000, could be worth a try as the program is not very big.

It is not really possible to copy the disks using DOS or any MS OS as they are like proprietry type 'unix' images. It is possible to Email them but it will still require disk factory to put them on floppies.

Jonathan Schofield

Hi Jonathan Schofield
Hi meltitdown

So, in other words I could zip the content of each of the 12 diskettes and email to meltitdown.
He can then try by means of "to download the disk factory program and make the 12 diskettes himself.

I will try this hoping that zip does not "hurt" the content of the diskettes.

BR doktor

I have done the zip routine before with out any problems and then unzipped to a new folder and used disk factory, but that was in the good old 98 days. There must be another program similar to DiskFactory out there but I haven't found it.

Jonathan Schofield

Hi Jonathan Schofield
Hi meltitdown

I tried to copy OCTEL prompts through disk factory to a folder on my PC, so I would be able to email the prompts.
BUT this was not possible.
So when you want to make new floppies with prompts, disk factory can only be used to copy from one floppy (the original) to a new floppy.

Is this correct, or do I do something wrong.
It was not the same problem when I copied the s/w disks.

BR doktor

I think so. I think you will need to email the prompts as 'raw' and let meltitdown do the disk factory bit.

Hi All

I recieved the Disks for the software and they loaded OK up till number 3. Then ?I recieved this: Which I guess means the disk has failed?

Maybe we can try the prompts in the way Jonathan has suggested?

Sorry, I think that your disk has expired. You will need to source another from Avaya or one of their re-sellers. As this is the only disk all messages etc are lost. If you would like a contact for the purchase of a disk let me know.

Doktor:

I tried to remove and reinstall the disk with DSKTST and it didn't work.

The OCTEL ASSY: number is 740-6535-001 rev a-1

There is also a sticker on the front with a similar number:

740-6245-003

The actual drive is a fujitsu model M2706SAM

Why is not possible to buy a Fujitsu drive of the same type and plug it in? does it need to be formated in a special way?
