Hi,

In IE6.0, my home page is set to blank.
I`m using IE6.0 on a LAN network computer with W2K OS SP2.

The problem is that everytime I start an IE session and click on the address bar drop down box, there`s a lag of about 15 seconds before the list of past websites visited is displayed. During the lag, the IE session is frozen.

This only happens on the first time in a IE session. After browsing around, if I click on the dropdown box the list quickly appears.

Any ideas why?
Thanks,
Danny

I noticed that no one has yet responded to your question yet so maybe I can start things going. I have my browser also set to blank on a LAN setting, because when at home I do not want my browser searching for our intranet home page with an error message. However, when at work or at home I go up to Favorites and click on a page I wish to go to and do not get the lag time you mention. Do you still get a lag time doing that?

Thanks for the reply, skimmers,
If I click on one of my favourites, the lag does not happen. But the problem is to do with the address bar. I guess I could always use the favourites, but I thought maybe this problem was common and there was a simple solution. oh well...its not a big deal.

In Tools > Internet options > General > TIF settings suppose you are not seeking for newer versions every time ..... (?). Secondly , an idea to run Adaware (or a similar tool) to see if any unknown program is running ?

I don't have the exact same problem as you, since I don't have a blank homepage, but I notice a lag in the IE 6 address bar if you type in say " (or any other URL) - takes forever to open the page. If you type " it has no problems. A bit annoying to type the " - it should default to http I'd think. Anyone else have this problem? As for the blank homepage, why not set the homepage to a local file or something?

I tried setting my homepage to a non-blank page, but still the same lag occurs. I checked for hidden programs, adware etc, but none found.

Thanks anyway
Danny

The answer to this question is- You might be having lot of network drives mapped in your windows explorer and everytime you click on the dropdown of the address it tries to refresh each and every individual network mapping, thats why it takes long time...

Get rid of all the mapped drives from explorer and move it to Network places.

This fixes everything.....

In response to sublemon . A bit annoying to type the " - it should default to http I'd think

Type in just the name, Microsoft then hit Ctrl-Enter at the same time to fill in the rest.

If your 'lag' only happens when not typing the you may want to read:

IE 6 Delay Typing URL in the Address Bar without the http:// prefix

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have a question for comet2000.

When you say "Get rid of all the mapped drives from explorer and move it to Network places."

How do I do this?
All my network drives are mapped in My Computer...

Thanks,
Danny
