Once a canvas has been opened in Fireworks MX, certain functions will not complete without a second click. For example, to close a window within Fireworks I click on the "x" to close as normal but must click again anywhere on screen to complete the task. One of the characteristics of this problem is that the entire Fireworks window changes from "currently in use" mode to unselected mode on first click. The most awkward problem (which I expect is related) is that the fill/eyedropper palette tool will not expand to the colour palette when clicked, effectively meaning that I can't choose a fill colour. The eyedropper merely appears and the Fireworks window goes into unselected mode. For God's sake, help me! Reinstallation does not solve the problem. I hope this is a setting issue...Thanks!

It actually sounds more like a bug in the software to be honest. What platform are you using? I know for a fact that it has issues running on anything less than windows xp- which it was designed for. And some mac users I know have some very weird problems on occasion. Maybe you should go have a look on the Macromedia website and see if there are any patches, they often release a couple of patches for their programmes once they have been out for awhile.

Sometimes, when my code just won't behave, I take it outside and make it listen to britney spears music, and when it comes back it's really well behaved. I wonder if it's suffering from post tramatic stress syndrome now..
