How do I get rid of the clicking everytime I click the mouse in Windows XP. I did know how to do this. Go to "Control Panel," select, "Sounds." Now I just don't know where to go from there. There is something that needs to be turned off but I don't know what!

Hi, try to disable the "select" and the "program open" events

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

Jeff

Open the Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel and select the Sounds tab.

In Program Events, anything with a Speaker Icon will produce a sound on that event occurring. One at a time click on the Speaker Icon to load the .wav file into the "Sounds" box below. Click on the small black triangle to the right of this box to play/preview the .wav sound.

When you find the actual sound that is annoying you, use the drop down menu from the sounds box and select "None".

I found the reference I was looking for to solve the annoying clicking in Windows XP/2000. It was from Micro2000 Tech Tips. Here it is:

Stop The Clicking

A couple of versions ago, Microsoft added a clicking noise to Internet Explorer so that each time you click on a link, you hear an audible click, which many of us have found annoying after a while. In the Windows XP control panel, open Sounds > Speech and Audio Devices > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds tab. For Windows 2000 it's just Sounds & Multimedia. Scroll down to the Windows Explorer section. Click the event called Start Navigation, and change the setting to none from the dropdown box. Click OK to apply the change. You are now free from the annoying clicking.
