I've developed an annoying problem... I've got an adware (I think) program that, on a regular basis - about every 3-5 minutes, will pop-up a Messenger Service box telling me that there's some problem with the registry and to got to some web site and download their program. With each new Messenger Service box there is a different problem and a different web site.

What is this thing and how do I get rid of it?

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Start, Run, services.msc
Find the entry for the Windows Messenger service. Stop it. Then set its startup state to disabled.

(This service is completely different from, and independent, of the IM Windows Messenger client).

There's something weird going on with Gibson's web server. It's treating " differently from "grc.com", so 2ffat's link won't work.

1.) no it's not treating it differently...

2.) 2ffat forgot the '.htm' at the end of his link, that is the reason why it doesn't work... (
@tviman - Download HiJackThis, from run it and do a LOG, then copy this LOG into the clipboard and paste it here: and have it analyzed...

good hunting...

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...
