I made an animated button. The roll over works, but to get the down state animation to work i must hold the button down. Is there a way to make the "down animation" work just by clicking it once?

Create the animation as a separate movie-clip and have the 'on-press' action of the button tell this clip to play. It will keep on looping until you tell it to stop or it hits a stop action within it's own timeline.

there is an option called "on mouse event", but it is not accesible for some reason.

Right-click on your button... -> Properties in Flash 4, Actions in Flash 5, the On mouse event(Flash 4)or On(Flash 5)will be there!

There are two animated buttons(1 & 2), and you can download the .fla to have a look at it! "If nothing else, I can always serve as a bad example!”

it is there, but is not highlighted. It won't let me choose it as an option. Iam in flash 5. It has both on mouse event an the on actions.

Are you sure you're right clicking on your button and not clickin' the timeline? And is the behavior set to button?
